Most Teens Still Prefer Landline Phones

According to Pew Internet & American Life Project, 39% of teens use landline phones versus 35% of teens on cell phones to stay in touch with friends on an everyday basis.  With roughly 93% of all teenagers in the US now online, advancing technology is also introducing newer and creative methods to stay “in the know” around the clock.  Many teens, in addition to using the phone to communicate, are also staying in touch using instant and text messaging, email, and social networking sites such as MySpace and Facebook.

Teens are choosing the best technology to use given the current situation they’re in.  For example, texting at a loud party, MySpace to drop a quick note or share some pictures, or instant messaging when carrying on several conversations.  According to the report, email was overwhelmingly teens’ least favorite tool for communicating.
