I have not found any cons with the 8x8 service. Would Recommend to a friend.
8x8: Completely Satisfied I recently put 8x8's virtual office on my android and have been completly satisifed with the service. I get clear voice calls and get great range on my wireless network, I am also pleased with the answering system and the easy accessability to 8x8's great customer care. I would definately recommend this service to anyone in need of a fast, reliable phone service.

Easy Setup, Great tech support, tons of features and at a great price! The Bad:
None noted! Would Recommend to a friend.
RAVING 8X8 FAN! First, if you want a complete communications solution, I highly recommend 8x8! We are an IT consulting firm, Managed Service Provider, and we started using 8x8 about 2 years ago and haven't had any issues at all. From the beginning, I cant say enough how great their support is. The entire process was an extremely pleasant one. There was no pressure sales tactics from my sales rep. Shipment was very quick and everything arrived neatly packed. The installation was simple and easy; so easy, my 10 year old could have done it. If you need any help, the support is quick, courteous and they speak to you in terms that you can understand! I have called for help on a number of occasions and theyve never let me down. They have many options for phones and in different price ranges. They are all solid and have so many features such as web conferencing, Internet faxing, smartphone integration, softphone for your computer, reporting and an online dashboard that gives you total control over your entire phone system. One of my favorite features is getting voicemails in your email and smart phone. Most of my team is on the road quite a bit so whenever a client calls our desk phones, we wouldnt know about it until we were back in the office. With 8x8, we are notified within seconds if a client calls us in the office and leaves a message. Theres even a feature that allows you to dial multiple phone numbers, like your cell and/or home number, then the person would say their name and allow you to screen the call so you can make the decision if you want to take the call or forward it to voicemail. My number one concern was voice quality, and over the last two years I am extremely pleased to say that we havent had any issues. In fact, weve had so much success over the last couple of years that we have recently signed on as a partner and are now offering the 8x8 services to all of our clients. I highly recommend 8X8!RAVING 8X8 FAN!

8x8: Legendary Support We have been using 8x8 for 4 months now and have not had any issues. Moved from another VoIP provider that had little to zero support. 8x8 has tons of features included in the standard price including smartphone app, softphone, auto-attendant. The voice quality has not been an issue and would reccomend it to anyone looking for an enterprise class product at a small business price.

Established Provider US Based Customer Service The Bad:
Company harvested emails of my customers and is spamming them. Company double charges ports on web meetings, making a 15 port account receive overage chares with as few as 8 participants. Price is 3x other options. I was a customer in their first six months in the VOIP business in 2005 and have rejected them because of the deterioration of ethics and service I experienced, and that the people I recommended 8x8 to experienced. Would Not Recommend to a friend.
8x8 has lost its ethics and lost its way I have been a customer since 2005, when 8x8 was still calling itself packet8. I was a very happy one for years. As you will see below, 8x8 has lost its ethics and lost it way as a service oriented company.I steered business to 8x8 and have even had personal service from the CEO because they were so small when I started. Over the last several years, they have not stayed price competitive, but I was fine with that because I had a happy history with the company. Then they overcharged a non profit I recommended them to by a significant amount. I had to get involved and fight them on it, finally involving the CEO directly. The billing was reversed, but they would not make a commitment that this would never happen again since they believed they were in the right. I had the non-profit close the account. After that, it was discovered that 8x8 harvested email addresses of every person ever invited to a virtual meeting by that non-profit and has been constantly spamming all of those people ever since. Two honey pot addresses for the non-profit's invitations receive 5 or more offers per week written in a mail merge to "[undisclosed person]".I complained to the company multiple times and they will not explain this unethical behavior nor change it. This time the CEO has not responded. As a result, I am canceling my account today. I have written the people being spammed to apologize and suggested that they file CANSPAM complaints since almost all are in the USA.After a review of options, I will prepay two year with a vendor which is $6.21 per month plus CA tax.8x8 has lost its ethics, and lost its way. I am so upset that it was painful to give them a 4 star rating for features, and 3's for sound and reliability, but those are true assessments. Ethics is a non-negotiable for me, so the last two items actually bring my overall rating to less than half a star if I had the opportunity to assess the organization as a whole.

Needed to purchase a new router to set voice priority, but that is a good idea for any Voip provider as it makes quality much better. Would Recommend to a friend.
8x8 Full Service Provider The installation process was not as smooth as we had hoped, but it did nto affect us as we had our old phone systeme in place until the new system came up. At first we thought it might vbe 8x8 quality issues, but we found out after they recommended to us to get a $100 router that prioritizes voice packets the service and quality was great. We have come to learn that the quality provided by 8x8 is great and as soon as we learned that we had to prioritize packets in our router that was a simple setting we were quite happy.

8x8 Customer Review The quality of Packet 8 service is as good and perhaps even better than regular phone service, and definitely much better than mobile service.I have called a wide range of differenty phone numbers around the world and never had any problems.Furthermore, I have taken the unit with me to Russia and used it from Moscow to place calls to Britain and the United States and have enjoyed the same high quality connections from Moscow as from here in Seattle. And a colleague now has a Packet 8 phone in London and is using it for international calling all around the world, also without any problems. One of the best things about Packet 8 is the savings! Unlike regular phone service, I am not paying massive surcharges in taxes to my local city and state and federal government. There is just one, single 3% federal tax.

8x8 - Voip Provider Review My Packet8 experience has been absolutely wonderful so far. When I received my Uniden 1868P VoIP Internet Phone adapter/telephone combo device, I was able to install it in minutes due to the excellent instructions that were enclosed. After making the necessary cable connections, I lifted the receiver, dialed the special code that was provided, and had an email confirming my activation within minutes. I made my first "live" internet phone call within 15 minutes of unpacking the adapter. As an IT professional, I have installed hundreds of new hardware devices and have never experienced a setup as quick and easy as this one.

Hands down, 8x8 are the best that I have ever dealt with throughout the many, many years being in this industry. They did everything they could to make this successful for us and also taught me a lot about broadband technology at the same time. Good Company with Good Service. I am sticking with 8x8 Inc!

Have a hard time getting a hold of my rep. I ordered a headset to go with my phone, but no one really knew which headset it took. When I got it, I only got half of it and had to order the other half. Would Recommend to a friend.
8x8: wonderful customer support As the owner of a small business, I have locations in other parts of the U.S. and canada. We all needed to have the same toll free number, just have different extensions...we tried with another VoIP provider and it was awful. We had their service and phones for 9 days. The phones were only operable 1 day out of the 9. 8 x 8 offers a full service business solution with the most cost effective way. The features that they offer are second to none. I would never go back to anyone else again, for our business phones. The customer support here is wonderful. We had a problem with one phone in a satellite office that also has vonage, the tech support walked through every step for an employee to restart everything and plug everything in and provide him with the correct IP address and within a half an hour, he was up and running. We are very very pleased for the decision that we made to come to 8 x 8.

I signed up and they had a special going for free installation, not really sure what installation was because they just shipped my preprogrammed phones and I plugged them in and everything worked, but it was free. I also got a phone for my house and if no one answers at the office it rings on my home phone. I love it.

Great for small business Packet8 was the lower cost solution to our needs. Phone systems for traditional phones lines are expensive, but the Packet8 VOIP service is scaleable as we grow with no technicians required to set up. Great example was when I moved my company to a new office -- all we did was set up the DSL on our computer network and the phones worked immediately. Also great for remote employees working from home who are just another extension in your office no matter where they are geographically -- and you can have them billed directly for their extensions.

Re: 8x8 Packet8 Virtual OfficeWe have had the service for almost a year and a half. For the most part we are very satisfied. Only three gripes: 1) occasional (very uncommon) digital artifacting during calls (cannot hear the person we're talking to for a second or two); 2) call waiting caller ID causes two short (~2 second) beeps/pauses that cause us to not be able to hear the current conversation momentarily (they say they can turn this off - but then you lose the call waiting caller ID feature); 3) It took a LONG time and a LOT of phone calls with customer service to finally get our outbound caller ID to show up correctly (on the phones of people we're calling).

Happy with VOIP We made the switch about 2 years ago. It was not all easy in the early stages as we use high speed wireless for our internet and encountered some hardware/firmware issues early one. However, once those were resolved we have had a fairly good experience. Saved a lot of money and it has enabled us, with a very scattered work crew, to operate with the kind of telephone efficiency you normally could only have gotten from very expensive Centrex type systems.

I Would Highly Recommend About a year ago I ordered Packet8 service, but I decided I was not going to hook it up, so I decided to return it. My credit card was refunded for the device onced they received it, and even so I was charge for one month after I cancelled service it only took one quick phone call for them to return the fee to my card. So I found my self ordering the Packet8 service again with the uniden cordless phone. Shipping was fast. Set up was super easy. The phone I received for free is a great phone. The service is awesome, the line has great clarity. I use my VoIP in Mexico, and talk about 5000 minutes to US phone numbers. I have recommended to family and they are as happy as I am. It is almost hard to beleive all the negative comments on the service. Caller ID works fine, name and numbers appear.

Poor service, little gotchas like you have to pay for your fax machine to work like it used to. Would Recommend to a friend.
no fax/poor resolutions Today Packet 8 took a 1.5 hour sabbatical. This would never happen on the "old telephone network". Their attitude is cavalier - the first guy said (cell phone connection) it should be working in the next few minutes, [pause] or hour. I also learned that I can't use my fax machine on the Packet 8 "line". It worked on the SunRocket "line" but it won't work on theirs - their solution, buy $9.95 fax line service from us - who do they think they are, the PHONE COMPANY?! I don't think so, when the service sounds like good old fashion service and WORKS like good old fashion service, maybe you can start charging for features - but not now. POS

Packet8 Customer Since 2004 I've had Packet8 for almost 4 years now. Back in 2004 there were some problems with getting an echo on some of the calls but that problem has since gone away. There's really no difference between Packet8 VoIP and my old ATandT connection other than Packet8 is a lot cheaper. I have the plan that allows you to call overseas unlimmited for $50 per month. We use it to call Europe every day. The voice quality is excellent. No complaints. I'm thinking about getting the Packet8 Tango for $99 so I can talk to my family that live a few hundres miles away. They also have Packet8.

When the Internet connection is down, so is the phone. It's VOIP so that's a given. Would Recommend to a friend.
It's been better for me than landline was When I switched to Packet8 a couple years ago it was the only VOIP company I could find that could get me a local number. The sound quality was nearly as good as what I had with landline. Since then it has gotten better to where you can't tell the difference in sound quality.
With landline I never knew from month to month what my phone bills were going to be. We make a few international calls and my folks live in another state, plus in our area (Illinois) unless you pay for a plan with unlimited local calling you can be billed for every call and by the minute for any calls not within certain cities. Now I know withing a couple dollars what my phone bill will be each month.
I had a problem once with the voicemail not kicking in on the number of rings I wanted and the online changes weren't taking effect so I contacted their tech support online. It was fixed in short order.
On another occasion I had a suggestion that would benefit me. They came back and said it would be implemented in their next software release. It was, and I use that new feature regularly.

The only thing I do not like is the hidden cost. I paid annual fee in advance ($199) and Packet 8 still charges me reguar monthly tax/e911/and other charges total up to $5/month.

There are better VOIP Tried Packet8 for 4 months now. I switched from Sunrocket. Sunrocket had better voice quality and better options. Packet8 quality is choppy. Only around 50% of the time do I HAVE a clear connection. Their customer service sucks. Takes 2 weeks to reply to an email. I was suppose to pay only 20 a month but somehow my bill is around $30 a month! For that I could get a landline with free long distance. Not worth it. Their website also sucks

Just joined and working great I have just started using Packet8 and VOIP in general. I found it extremely easy to setup, however I am an IT professional. Basically just hooked it up, set it up in the DMZ of my router and it was ready for primetime. Also I am glad I could get a number that would be local to my area, even in rural MN. There was a billing error with my activation charges, but were promptly taken care of. Call quality is good and I love the free Uniden phone. I look forward to using their advanced features.

LPN It took them almost 2 months to tranport my old number. They made a mistake. I have to file a complain with FCC about this problem. Though FCC hasn't call me. Every time I call I got different answer.
They wan't tell up front what they don't do.
They don't support fax unless you pay extra 9.99/month and you have to a have another line.
You have to dial 1 and then area code and then number. At Sunrocket you don't have to dial 1 first, first area code and then number. This time consuming when you dial from caller ID data.
They should offer this fiture.

Former Sunrocket customer and very happy with the online features like call blocking, voice mail and call logs.
With Packet 8 you have to dial 77 on the phone to block anonymous calls. How POTS is that?
You cannot retrieve voice mail online, that is just lame.
No call logs, and whats up with caller ID, they should call it caller ID lite, because it only give you the number not the name.
If you like Plain Old Telephone Service this would be fine, sound is good and service reliable, but it is so feature less it hurts.

So far so good Former Sunrocket user. I was out of town for 3 weeks and got a late start on picking up new service. Did some research and saw that Packet8 was still advertising a special to former SR customers. It was Aug 28 at the time of my research and the AD was only good till Aug 31. So I took the chance and crossed my fingers that I'll be able to port my number over. On Sept 6 or 7, my number was ported over. Needless to say I was impressed. With all the crazy stories about LNP problems, I thought for sure I'd be waiting months to have my number ported. Of course, Packet8 may not be the only factor to the speed of porting numbers, but they must've taken care of things on their side pretty quickly. Hardware setup was easier then SR. Basically, dial the VM number and enter the activation code. That was it. Calls were up, and my wife who was in California at the time, successfully called me (in Texas) several minutes after activation. What I don't like about Packet8 is that they nickel and dime us. SR charged a flat rate and that's all I payed ($24 per month). For instance, it costs extra for a virtual number and fax capabilities. On SR, these were included. Oh well, I'm just glad to have my home phone up and running again, using my old phone number.

Get Packet8 Unlimited for $149/yr I recently found a great deal on Packet8. You can get their yearly service, which is normally $199 + $30 setup, for only $149 by taking advantage of two separate deals. First, Packet8 is offering $24.99 off + free setup. That brings the total down to $174. Next, I found a site - www.internetreviewer.net - that offers an additional $25 rebate if you purchase Packet8 after following a link from their site. It's completely legitimate. Those two offers combined give you $149/yr, or only $12.41/mo, for unlimited local and long distance service. And the quality on Packet8 has been great so far. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Day one of the service i had problems. the number i was assigned could make outbound calls but if you tried to call me you would get a whole diffrent person. customer support fixed this and i had to get a whole new number. day 2 i had to call customer service about not being able to dial out. i would get a fast busy signal. i am in an area where you have to dial 10 digits but i was informed that i would have to dail 11 in order to dial out. I have also had a few other problems but i am tired of typing

Packet 8 Rocks Packet 8 Is the best service out there. I have been using it since 2003 and have never had a problem. My agent from a dedicated call center has helped me through everything. And he was very proffessional. It is so easy, if you can surf on google and plug in a phone you can use packet8 service. It's harder to get out of the box than it is to set up. My dedicated agent walked me through everything. Packet8 is by far the best VOIP service in existence. And how could they be going out of business with 67 patents, and 10,000+ customers? In my honest opionion i think you all are idiots for slamming a great service. Continue paying too much for crappy phone service, see if I care. Point is I'm Happy and I love it. It is the best thing since sliced bread.

After reading half of the issues on here, he pointed out that most of you complainers have complaints about billing issues, and other ways to take advantage of packet8s cheap rates. Contacting the BBB will not change the standing policies of how a business should work. And some of you need to read up that its vonage going out of business NOT packet8!

The price changes over the period of time are understandable. I don't understand some of the negative comments. They are most likely folks who don't understand VOIP or are not actually Packet8 users.

I've been using packet8 for nearly 2.5 years In about a week, I will have been using packet8.net's residential unlimited service for the last 2.5 years.
I have found the service to be good and the quality to be fine. I have not experienced any line/sound quality problems. It sounds much better than my cellphone. I think I have noticed one or two short outages (in their network, not because of my ISP) over the last 2.5 years.
The only thing I could really complain about is that I wish there were some more features. Like for example, it would be nice to be able to manage my voicemail messages online, and it would be nice to be able to block calls from certain incoming phone numbers.
On the other hand, the features that are included are excellent and much, much better than anything you could expect to get with a basic phone line. Caller ID, control over outgoing caller ID, as well as whether it sends your name and what name it sends, three way calling, voicemail with email support, call forwarding / making your number ring down to another set of numbers, etc. I find caller ID and the ring-down feature extremely useful, and would not want to switch to a service without them.
In the last month I have twice experienced weird digital noise on an incoming call through packet8. The person on the other end could hear me fine, but they were completely unintelligible. Since packet8 gives me caller ID, it was easy to see who it was and call them back. I had no problems with the outgoing call.

GOING DOWNHILL I've been a Packet8 customer for about 4 years. The first 3 years was great, price was cheap and quality was excellent. A few nitpicky points stand out, like not getting a notification when there was a firmware upgrade and being given a phone number that belonged to someone else. But everything worked well for the most part. The line was not always working, but tech support was usually responsive and after about 3 years, they simply couldn't help me. I had switched to a wireless router, tried everything the guy suggested and still, my calls were being dropped and there was no dial tone. My adapter was dead. He was nice enough to give me a choice, said I could choose another VOIP service and port my number or I could get new equipment. I asked him why Packet8 doesn't just send old customers new equipment, he says he doesn't know, but that I wouldn't be charged much if anything for it, provided I sign up for another year. Since I was happy with the service, I went ahead and signed up. After about 40 hours on the phone (including the late night calls with the tech), I had a new account and a new number. I was told to call back to have my old number switched over when I got my new phone. I did that and I asked that the old account be cancelled. Earlier, I had asked for them to wait, because I had not received my new equipment yet. But when I called back with the new phone, I told them to cancel. But as it turns out, MY ACCOUNT WAS NEVER CANCELLED.
Since I gave them two different credit cards and the charges were made on different days, I did not catch the error until 6 months later. I called up immediately, was put on hold for 10-15 minutes and was told I could only be refunded for the last 3 months, BECAUSE I TOLD THEM TO HOLD OFF CANCELLING ACCT. UNTIL THE END OF THE MONTH. Their note indicated such a comment was made by me on 10/24 - the end of the month is 7 days, which makes no sense. 10/24 WAS THE END OF THE MONTH AND I DID CALL BACK!! Yet they didn't cancel the account and must have left the note on there from weeks before when I called to sign up for the account.
So I was double billed for 6 months, refunded for 3. I'm still owed $81 ($27x3) from Packet8. It boggles my mind that this company has become so ruthless as to take such money from me, after I've been a loyal customer all these years and that both accounts pointed to the SAME PHONE NUMBER. I plan to write to the Better Business Bureau for my $81. I had totally expected more from Packet8. I signed up with them, because Customer Service ratings were high back then. But it appears there is too much competition (esp. in price) now and they are losing customers left and right, so not only have they raised their prices ("$19.95 unlimited plan" is really $27 on your bill), there is little customer service.

Their phone menus stink, as do most every phone company's but when I finally got a human, they could actually speak and think and solved the problem quickly. The web site is acceptable. Packet 8 After 18 Months This is a very good company with great sector leading VOiP technology. I own two numbers, and use one in Ameria and the other in Istanbul. Both numbers have been performed flawlessly and with superb sound quality -- for about 80% of the time, and good sound the remaining time. The only blight on this company is their somewhat slow tech support. If you pay ahead of time, you can get ful service and unlimited minutes for about $18 including taxes. Pretty darn good value for what VERIZON charged me $135 a month -- for not even half of the options my Packet 8 phone has.

I have used Packet 8 since Nov. 2004 with a few issues. I've had to reset a couple of times. More likely my service was affected due to hardware problems - the router, DTA or the uniden phone. My phone bills have literally been cut in half even with frequent calls to Japan and Taiwan. In fact LD calls a pennies per minute vs. Verizen's $.20 per minute. Packet 8 is the phone of tomorrow. It's been a God-send for our family.

A bit skeptical at first Let me start off by saying that I am very happy with my service from Packet8. Equipment I ordered was Uniden UIP1868P Phone with built in router and wireless handset. I would consider my technical experience to be relatively good, so setup was a breeze. I had the system up and running in about an hour. I did not cancel my local service until my local number was ported. Apparently there was a glitch on the website that resulted in two failed attempts at submitting an LNP request. I called customer service and they were very helpful. They escalated the service call and my number was ported within two weeks. I have had this service for about 6 weeks and have been pretty satisfied. I had one issue with my voicemail not working. A customer service rep said that my mailbox needed to be reset. The problem was resolved within 48 hours, but was indeed annoying. As far as call quality goes, I can't complain. I have the system wired to all my phone jacks. The router has enough juice to power all my jacks throughout my house. I have been able to send faxes without a problem. It would be nice if they had a router that would support two lines. The website could be better, and features seem a bit limited. Otherwise, i would give the service 4 out of 5 stars. Highly reccomended.
